Ocean Blue Hues on Block Island

In late July of 2023, Team Stoneblossom packed our trucks and hopped on the ferry to Rhode Island’s infamous Block Island to celebrate the marriage of I+R. We worked closely with the couple and Stasia Anthony of Exquisite Events to curate a quintessential coastal design plan to highlight the gorgeous natural backdrop of the family’s private property. Bountiful blooms of blue delphinium were a main component throughout the design plan, as they were one of the couple’s favorite flowers. The soft summer palette was composed of creamy & light blush blooms that embodied the soft swirling colors of seashells, paired with statement blooms in hues of ocean blues, the floral arrangements were truly reminiscent of a day at the beach.

The seaside ceremony featured a lush, softly rounded arbor that was spilling with organic foliage. The arbor was based with white & cream flowers and was bursting with moments of blue blooms. Textured florals danced softly in the summer breeze, adding movement and visual interest to the already stunning focal point of the ceremony. The aisle was lined with lush growing gardens of delphinium and larkspur, creating a cohesive composition of florals and foliage from the start of the aisle to the end at the arbor where I+R tied the knot.

As guests floated from the ceremony to the reception tent, they stopped at cocktail hour where monobotanical compositions of blooms designed in vintage chinoiserie vessels adorned the cocktail tables and bar. The entrance to the tent made a welcoming impact where guests were greeted with a threshold composed of lush organic greenery and pockets of blooms. Textured accents of wicker & rattan throughout the tent and tablescapes tied in the coastal-inspired design plan throughout the event. A plethora of light & airy vines covered the canopy of the tent, with dramatic, sweeping moments for added effect, and clusters of darling delphinium hanging from the greenery.

Multiple tablescape designs created depth and dimension at eye level, as the guests found their seats for dinner. The round tables were designed with beautiful blue & cream blooms spilling from a white ceramic compote, surrounded by gorgeous glistening candlelight, which emitted an ultra-romantic glow. Long Tuscan tables had collections of stone and crystal vessels overflowing with summer blossoms in the ocean-scape palette, creating a layered and romantic tablescape flooded with twinkling taper candles. The head table made a statement in the space with a full-floral runner, spilling to the ground with an abundance of blooms and greenery. Tucked into the textured runner were floating candles and blue taper candles providing a soft, elegant glow.

As an East-Coast-based floral house, we love when we have the chance to design with local and coastally inspired blossoms and foliage. The wedding of I+R allowed us to truly highlight all of the best parts of summer in New England, on the quaint island town of Block Island. We also love the opportunity to travel, whether it be within the state of Rhode Island or beyond, helping couples share their love story through the natural beauty of fresh flowers.
